Object remarks: Labels from Quensel, Dalman and Smitt. Included in catalogs of Quensel, Swartz, and Dalman. This is one of two or three which may be identical to the specimen listed in Hornstedt's catalog. Name updated from Exocoetus exsiliens. This species was described by Linnaeus in 1771 in Mantissa Plantarum with a reference to Garden (Garden, Alexander [1730-1791]. Doctor of medicine, South Carolina.). Wheeler (1985) states there is a unique holotype in London. / EIÅ, 2005.

Quensel's catalogue (1800) states: "Silurus Catus Lin. 1357 - Bonnat. pl. 62 f. 249 - Radiis P:ae V. & A.20 & cirris 8 convenit cum descriptione, at cauda in nostro integra nec uit in fig:a bifida. Block illum non pinnit. Hab in America & Asiae aquis dulcibus."

Additional labels by Smitt: and Andersson: <5185, Labrus turdus L, Gamla saml.>. Possiby identical with entry in Quensel's Catalogue (1800): + sketch. Maybe also possible to connect to the collection of C de Geer, but no indication of type status for Linnaeus or Pallas species..
