Object remarks: Labels from Quensel, Dalman and Smitt. Included in catalogs of Quensel, Swartz, and Dalman. This is one of two or three which may be identical to the specimen listed in Hornstedt's catalog. Name updated from Exocoetus exsiliens. This species was described by Linnaeus in 1771 in Mantissa Plantarum with a reference to Garden (Garden, Alexander [1730-1791]. Doctor of medicine, South Carolina.). Wheeler (1985) states there is a unique holotype in London. / EIÅ, 2005.
Locality remarks: Date of collecting and accession antedates 1 Jan 1801. Number on label (when present) is page number in Syst.Nat. XIII and locality (like Amboina) is taken from that paper.
