Object remarks: Determiner and date asumption based on Proc. US Nat. Mus. 1880: 81. (cf. NRM accession archive): "33. Phycis tenuis (Mitch.) DeKay. 10450. Eastport, Maine." Previous number also NRM 5622. Tagged "33" and "10450". Name updated from Phycis tenuis (cf above), LG Andersson 1909 identified the specimen as "Phycis n.sp.? (an blennoides)", obviously without knowing about the records and origin from USNM since he states without locality data. Later corrected to "Phycis n.sp.? (an mediterran.)" - possibly also by Andersson./EIÅ, 2009.
Locality remarks: Year based on USNM 10438, 10439, 10441, and 10442 (assumed to be the same). Collector was given on two of these lots only: "E. Morse" (USNM 10442) and "United States Fish Commission (USFC)" (USNM 10439). Edward Sylvester Morse (1838 - 1925) was zoologist and orientallist but does not seem to have any clear connections to USFC. It is anyway unlikely that for five lots with catalogue numbers in serie it is coincidental that they all are collected in Eastport in 1872.
